Creation

This is going to be an interesting blog post. Mostly because I think there are going to be some fun thoughts about me. Let’s get this over right off the bat. I am a creationist. Not only am I a creationist, but I believe in the six day creation. Not in the gap theory, or the timeless theory. Not in theistic evolution, or in the belief of X amount of time being X amount of time. I believe in six, 24 hour days, in which God created the entirety of the earth from nothing.

Honestly, it should not be that inconceivable. Let’s be real here people. God is an All-Powerful, All-Knowing, All-Seeing God. If He can move the mountains, surely He could have created them. It always shocks me when people tell me that they cannot believe the amount of faith it takes for me to believe what I do. Seriously? You believe that nothing came from nothing and therefore made everything, but I am the one with a lot of faith.

It astounds me. So yes, I believe in six day, twenty-four hour creation, with a seventh day of rest. I believe that God created everything. The stars, the moon, the sky, the flowers, the bees, the ants, the Human mind, the dinosaurs, and everything conceivable. I believe that Genesis is the first recount of history, that the Bible is our greatest history book, dating back to a time that we do not even have numbers for. If you have never read Genesis, I am going to put it here, so you can have context for this talk.

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.

And God said, “Let there be a vault between the waters to separate water from water.” So God made the vault and separated the water under the vault from the water above it. And it was so. God called the vault “sky.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the second day.

And God said, “Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place, and let dry ground appear.” And it was so. God called the dry ground “land,” and the gathered waters he called “seas.” And God saw that it was good.

Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the third day.

And God said, “Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years, and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth.” And it was so. God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.

And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the vault of the sky.” So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems and that moves about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the fifth day.

And God said, “Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals, each according to its kind.” And it was so. God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.

Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

So God created mankind in his own image,
in the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.

God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.

God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

So, there you have it, context. My belief for the 24 hour days is based off the fact that the Bible quite literally says there was evening and morning. I am not sure about you, but that does not sound like thousands or millions of years to me. This thing was created, there was evening and there was morning, this day.

I think one problem that comes with the ‘timing’ argument, is that humans are constricted totally to the concept of time. Yet, time itself is a human construct/a coping mechanism that God created for us. We seem to struggle to understand how God can conduct Himself outside of time. Therefore, we want to put an age on Him, or even on how old the earth must be for where we are. We add more and more time in, in hopes that somehow it distances us from God, or makes us seem more important. We are the product of X amount of time. When really, that is illogical.

As humans we are reduced to our own reality and perception of understanding. There are things we literally cannot comprehend in this finite lifetime. Scientists are discovering new things every day. Yet, somehow, it is weird to think that there could be an intelligent designer. I do not feel the need to put an age on God, or have a cause for Him, because their is no way to have an uncaused cause. The all-evading ‘universe’ concept just really blows my mind, but I guess everyone’s got their own gods.

As well, a lot of argument that comes against a creationist perspective, is what about dinosaurs. We know they exist. Well friends, let us first start off by understanding where and when dinosaurs came about (the term that is). The word dinosaur itself did not come into being until about 200 years ago, or more specifically 1842. It is a word coined by a man named Richard Owen, meaning great lizard basically. Which means that before, specifically in the Biblical times, the word dinosaur did not exist. So, what would be used in its place?

Dragon. Leviathon. Behemoth. It is all over the place. Job wrote about dinosaurs. You can read his report of the great beasts. A lot of people try to discredit that by saying it is rhinos and hippos (or elephants) respectively. Last I checked, none of those three had tails like cedars and the potential to breathe fire. Maybe that’s just me, but I prefer to read and understand what is on the page.

According to an evolutionists standpoint, we did not exist in a time with the dinosaurs. They were long gone before we were around. Yet, ancient temples have depictions of stegosaurus’. There have been vases found, painted with dinosaurs we now claim exist. There have been human skeletons and dinosaur skeletons found in the same fossilized soil. Look it up. It’s there. It just isn’t as published as the new coolest dinosaur they found from three billion years ago.

Also, every story, tradition, myth, rumour, belongs with a seed of truth. What about Japanese legends of warriors fighting dragons. What about our fairy-tales where a Prince saves his damsel in distress from a ferocious beast. Rites of passage still exist in today’s world, where young men are sent to kill great beasts to prove they are a man. As well, what do you do when a polar bear comes into your city and threatens your weak?

You kill it.

Take that fruit for thought.

So then, what happened to them, where do they fit into this? Day five and six. Where the creatures of the sea, sky, and earth were created. These would have included dinosaurs. Were they on Noah’s ark? Yes. How? Well first off our depiction of dinosaurs is likely grossly overestimated in their size, but that is a science that cannot be proven necessarily (considering literal science cannot prove science), but as well, as my Uncle Darryl puts it so eloquently, you don’t take grandpa and grandma onto the Ark. You take the little ones. The babies. So that when they dock, you have the horny teenagers ready to breed.

Weird imagery, but it makes sense.

They likely died from change in the atmosphere, being hunted and killed, maybe even Pangaea. One way or another, they are now extinct. Just like countless other species of animals who have been killed off or unable to survive natural selection (which is not an evolution thing, but also a Christian thing.) I don’t know why we can acknowledge the death of countless other species as being a human result, but somehow the concept of dinosaurs is too much for us to comprehend.

God made all life. He took every step of creation, and set it into motion. There is the concept of Theistic Evolution as well, which I also want to dispute, or even Christian Evolution. The idea that God created the building blocks, but evolution went from there. First off, why? Because the world pushes evolution down your throat so much that you cannot help but accept part of it? Like honestly, I have never understood the concept, that God would create the matter, but then bang everything would create itself. What logical sense is there in that?

The other idea, is that God made the world, and everything, but left creatures to evolve into humans. Say that is true. Let’s entertain that idea. That we came to be on our own, outside of Him. Do you understand what a massive problem that puts into Biblical truth?

Think of it like a cross divided into seven blocks. The first block on the bottom is creation, the second stacked on top of it is the fall, above that is judgement. Then you come to the cross bar. The virgin birth is on your left, then Jesus in the middle, with His death and resurrection on the right as the final part of the crossbar. Now you go to the last block on top, reading salvation. So, you have the cross.

But, we want to take creation out of that right? We weren’t created, knit together in the womb by God. This earth is not covered in His fingertips. We were not created for relationship with Him. We did not walk in the garden with Him. So cross that block out okay, we don’t want it.

Well now you got the Fall, where Adam and Eve sinned. But Adam and Eve were nothing special. There was no such thing as good and evil because God didn’t create a perfect world. It just came into existence. God never told them they couldn’t eat that fruit that He didn’t make. He never made them in the first place, they just evolved to where they were. So, now we don’t want that. Cross that one out, we don’t care about all that.

Well, now we come to the judgement. However, what is judgement? We live in a world created by itself. There is no good or evil. There was no disobedience. God is not Creator of the world or ruler over it. We came from nothing, we are nothing, we go to nothing. What we do doesn’t matter because ultimately we can do whatever we want as products of nothing. So let’s get rid of that too. We don’t want judgement.

What is the point of a virgin birth? What does that matter? Who is Jesus? Why does He matter? He is supposed to be our saviour. What is He saving us from? There is no sin, no problem. No judgement. Jesus is just a man who came to die in the name of God. Who cares? Let’s get rid of Him too. He was nice though, to do that, if not maybe a little crazy.

Oh well God is not sovereign. Death is a natural consequence of existence, not an unnatural punishment of the existence of good and evil. It comes to all and it doesn’t matter. Jesus is just a man, not the son of God. So let’s get rid of the death and resurrection. He shouldn’t have risen from the death. There is no reason for that. God is not All-Powerful, He didn’t create the world. So cross that block out.

Now we are left with salvation. Salvation from what though? From nothing. We come from nothing, we are nothing, we go to nothing, we have nothing to be saved from because death is natural, and there is no consequence for our action. We just… die.

Do you see the problem with that reasoning? If you get rid of creation, you break every other aspect of our faith, that leads to the cross. Without creation, every other part of doctrine falls apart. You can believe in God, and evolution, but you are going to find that your theology only leads to confusion and desolation. Ultimately, creation needs to have occurred as God wrote it, or the rest of life does not matter. Nothing matters.

I get how difficult it can be, to believe in creation when you have been raised to believe in evolution your entire life. It has never been a hard concept for me to grasp, but I know how it can feel to be insulted in your ‘intelligence’ for believing the Bible. Fact of the matter remains that no matter what you believe, God’s truth will be revealed, and it will line up exactly with His word.

We were created. We sinned. In that the wages of sin was death, and our eternity with God was cut short. We were set for judgement and pain for the choices we made. However, through a virgin birth to show His power and deity, Jesus came to life. He walked the earth 100% man, 100% God, and preached the Bible (including Genesis. If it were not true He would not have been shy in fixing it.) Jesus died to conquer death, and rose in the name of eternal life so that He could pay our debt and wash us clean. In that we are saved, from pain, from death, from sin.

Creation is not unimportant or a small aspect of a bigger whole, it is of vital importance to the Christian faith, and deserves this dedicated blog post. However, I have homework to do, so I am going to pray and we are going to be done for the day.

Thank you God for creating this world. For every beautiful atom you constructed to work for you. Thank you for the intricacies of this world. The mountains are incredible God. Even the way you created our minds, how they work. That every part of our body is balanced, in a way that no unknowing creation could make it. You are so much better than anything the human mind could construct. Thank you for blowing our expectations out of the water. Continue to reveal to us your will, your love, and your power. Thank you Lord.

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen.

I hope you all have an amazing week. Expecting to see some minds working.

God bless!

P.S. I am a writer which you probably know. I write fantasy and fiction mostly, like adventure books. One of the series I have written is Angels Vs. Demons, and in it, I always capitalized Humans, because it is more of a title than anything else. Now it is a conscientious effort to not capitalize that word, for hopes of not appearing to be an alien or something.
